#Delhi: Delhi NCR Radio taxi services and cab aggregators are gearing up to aid Delhiites during the odd-even pilot programme aimed at reducing the number of private cars on the road.
Meru Cabs on Tuesday announced the launch of its new Ride-Share feature. The service, available via the Meru app for the National Capital Region (NCR), allows customers to share their cabs with others going in the same direction. A fixed 30 per cent discount on the estimated trip fare will be given to the customer choosing the Ride-Share option.
Each Ride-Share trip can take a maximum of two bookings per ride with a maximum of two passengers per booking. For safety, the app allows passengers to share details of his/her location to registered emergency contacts.
“The Ride-Share feature service gives … users a convenient platform to book and share taxis when travelling in the same direction,” said Siddhartha Pahwa, Group CEO. From January 1 to 15, cars with even-numbered licence plates would be allowed to ply only on even-numbered dates and odd-numbered cars on odd-numbered dates. Errant drivers would be fined. To help commuters, Meru had recently launched its carpool service for private car owners.
Taxi cab aggregator Uber had on December 16 launched a carpooling service, uberGO, for private and commercial vehicles. UberPool in Bengaluru is only for commercial vehicles. But the service in Delhi is being targeted at 2.8 million private car owners. “Choose whether you want to share the ride or travel solo. We’ll show you the price for both. Fares for shared riders will be 10-30 per cent cheaper,” it said in its release.
Uber added its safety features would be on before, during and after the ride-such and would have the ability to see your driver’s details in advance, track via global positioning service, and have a help button in case of an emergency
Following Uber’s lead, Bengaluru-based Ola Cabs is also launching a private car-pooling feature within its app in Delhi NCR.
