Shankersinh Vaghela's third front 'Jan Vikalp' to counter BJP, Congress in upcoming Gujarat elections.Ahmedabad: Poll-bound Gujarat is all set to witness the third major political front.

Rebel Congress leader Shankersinh Vaghela on Tuesday announced that he has joined Jan Vikalp, a party floated by his supporters.

“It is a myth to say that an alternative political force can`t work in Gujarat,” said the 77-year-old veteran leader in a crowded press conference.

The new front will support independent candidates who register with it for the upcoming state assembly elections, he said.

People are fed up with the BJP and the Congress and are desperate for an alternative, said the septuagenarian.

Vaghela quit as the Leader of Opposition in Gujarat Assembly on July 24, a day after Congress expelled him. His resignation triggered a revolt in the party, following which seven more members were expelled.

Jan Vikalp, which has already started campaigning in Gujarat, calls itself a citizens’ movement working towards bringing “about the much needed change in the Society and become an alternative political force.”

“Why should the BJP or the Congress be the only options?” The Jan Vikalp website says that over the last 70 years, neither the BJP nor the Congress has given “anything except atrocities, exploitation, poverty, fear, hunger and corruption.”
