Gujarat Assembly Elections 2017: Indira thought this place stinks, held kerchief to her nose: PM Modi in MorbiAhmedabad: Pushing BJP’s campaign in Gujarat in full throttle, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on former PM and Congress leader Indira Gandhi on Wednesday.

“When Indira ben came to Morbi, I remember there was a photo of her in Chitralekha Magazine with a hanky over her nose due to the foul smells. But for Jansangh/RSS, the streets of Morbi are fragrant. It’s the fragrance of humanity,” said the Prime Minister while addressing a massive rally at Morbi.

Morbi constituency is a traditional BJP stronghold.

The Prime Minister, who began his party’s campaign for the upcoming Gujarat assembly elections from November 27, is slated to address other several rallies in the Saurashtra region.

Attacking Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi for calling GST ‘Gabbar Singh Tax’, PM Modi said that those who looted the country could only think of dacoits.

“For Congress, ‘development’ was giving hand pumps. For BJP, it is SAUNI Yojana and large pipelines that carry Narmada waters,”  he said, further adding, “In Gujarat we initiated a mass movement to conserve every drop of water. This is because we understand the adverse impact of lack of water.”

“Development for us is not about winning polls, it is about serving every citizen,” said the Prime Minister.

PM Modi had on Monday began his party’s Gujarat election campaign with a rally in Bhuj. The elections to the 182-member Gujarat Assembly will be held in two phases on December 9 and 14. The counting of votes will be on December 18.
