New Delhi: The Supreme Court had issued the notice to the Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal and some other senior leaders of Aam Aadmi Partyin a defamation case against them on Friday.
The defamation case has been filed by Union Minister Kapil Sibal’s son Amit Sibal. It is rooted in a May 15, 2013 press conference in which Kejriwal, while alleging conflict of interest, had said that Amit Sibal had appeared in the Supreme Court for Vodafone while his father was the communications minister.
Prashant Bhushan, Shazia Ilmi and Manish Sisodia are among the others who have been named in the SC order.
The operation of the high court order that had permitted Kejriwal to approach the lower court for his discharge in the defamation suit filed by Sibal had been stayed by the Supreme Court.
Notify that summons had also been issued on the name of Kejriwal and others by lower court. Kejriwal had moved the high court seeking exemption from appearance as he wanted to be discharged in the matter.
