Raipur: Maoist had attacked in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh on Sunday in which two CRPF officials including a deputy commandant died and 12 security personnel injured.
The incident took place on Sunday morning in a forest near Bodhrajpadar village under Bhejji police station limits, Sukma Additional Superintendent of Police Neeraj Chandrakar said.
Constable Rajiv Rawat, belonging to the 219 Battalion of CRPF, and one of the two deputy commandants in the operational units have been killed. The identity of the deputy commandant is yet to be announced.
CRPF Inspector-General (Operations) HS Sidhu said, “Two of our personnel including a deputy commandant-level officer have been killed. The entire operation was being led by senior officers.”
He also added that twelve security personnel, including a CRPF deputy commandant, seven other officials of the force and four State policemen, have been injured in the incident.
Chandrakar said that the evacuation process is on and two helicopters have been sent to retrieve the injured jawans.
A joint squad of the CRPF, its specialised unit Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (COBRA) and the district police personnel was engaged in an anti-Maoist operation for the past few days in the region, which is about 500 km from Raipur.
Chandrakar said, maoists triggered a landmine blast and opened fire on the security personnel.
Maoists retreated as the security personnel retaliated and began to encircle them.
Meanwhile Chhattisgarh Police had also informed that the death of three Maoists including a couple who were killed in an encounter with the security forces in Bijapur district of the State.
Bijapur Deputy Superintendent of Police Sukhnandan Rathore said, the gunbattle took place during a combing operation in the Badekakler forest under Farsegarh police station limits on Saturday evening.
He said that a joint team of Chhattisgarh Police and Maharashtra Police was carrying out the combing operation in the Farsegarh region on the inter-State border, around 450 km from Raipur, when the Maoists attacked.
After a fierce gunbattle, the ultras retreated to the core area of the forest, the DSP said.
Bodies of the three Maoists and a muzzle-loading gun, a tiffin bomb, Maoist literature and some items of daily use were found on the spot. The dead were identified as Naveen Mandavi (38), his wife Mase Telam (27) and Sannu Udde (23).
Mandavi was a member of ‘Platoon II’ of the Maoists from 2001 to 2004 and after that he worked as a training instructor for the cadres in Gangalur area of Bijapur till 2009. Presently he was the ‘section commander’ in ‘Military Platoon II’ of the ultras.
