Actor Sanjay Dutt to file a review petition in SC

New Delhi, 8th April: Actor Sanjay Dutt is all set to file a review petition and will move the Supreme Court against its March 21 judgment.

Sanjay Dutt has been convicted under the Arms Act for his role in the 1993 Mumbai bombings. On March 21, The Supreme Court sent Dutt to five years in prison and he was given four weeks to surrender.

The petition, which has been prepared by a Delhi-based legal team, will most probably be filed in a day or two. If the plea is suspended, a curative petition can also be filed.

The actor, who was convicted under the Arms Act for illegally possessing weapons, had been awarded six years imprisonment by the TADA (Terrorists and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act) court.

However, the SC reduced the sentence from six years to five years. This effectively means that Dutt will be in jail for three years and six months as he has already undergone 18 months imprisonment.

The actor had earlier made it clear that he had not applied for pardon and would surrender to the authorities as per the Supreme Court order in the 1993 Bombay bomb blasts case.
