Campaigning ends for Karnataka assembly polls today

Bangalore, 3rd May: All the political parties have roped in their national leaders to campaign for the polls and finally the campaigning for the May 5 Assembly polls in Karnataka will come to an end on Friday evening.

Almost all the political parties did campaigning for the polls and are trying to reach the maximum voters through rallies.

An estimated 2,900 candidates have entered the fray for the polls.

Indian National Congress (INC) has fielded 224 candidates, while the BJP has given tickets to 223 candidates this time.

Elections to the 224-member Karnataka Legislative Assembly are to be held on May 5 and the counting of votes will be taken up on May 8.

PM Manmohan Singh, Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi are among others who addressed rallies in Karnataka for the upcoming polls.

The election in one constituency was countermanded due to the death of BJP candidate in Periyapattana in Mysore district. The election in this constituency will be held on May 28.

But this time the presence of Karnataka Janatha Party, BSR Congress and greater presence of Samajwadi party and BSP has made the election multifarious in the state.
