BJP & JD-U supporters injured in clash during Bihar Bandh

Patna: Nearly half-a-dozen people were injured in clashes between the supporters of BJP and JD-U in Patna, as the BJP enforced a day-long shutdown in the state to protest JD-U’s ‘betrayal’. JD-U spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan and three other party leaders were injured when BJP workers attacked them, police officials said.

BJP national general secretary Rajiv Pratap Rudy said, “What rights does the Bihar CM have to send his party workers and stage a clash here (BJP office)? He must give an answer.”
The BJP spokesperson Syed Shahnawaz Hussain said, “We were observing a peaceful bandh.

The riot took place after the BJP workers raised slogan against Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and JD-U workers countered them by raising slogan against Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

BJP had decided to expose the “doublespeak” of the Bihar CM over his Gujarat counterpart by distributing CDs of an old video in which Nitish had praised Narendra Modi, “Where was protocol when Modi visited Bihar in 2010? He (Nitish) didn’t even offer him a courtesy visit.” Prasad asked

The JD-U has 118 seats in the 243-member assembly, four short of a majority, while the BJP has 91 members. There are six independents, while the Congress has four members. One of the oldest allies of the BJP, the JD-U is the 14th party to desert the NDA, which was formed in 1998 and ruled India for six years under the leadership of the now ailing Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
