Congress leader advocate the Planning Commission report

New Delhi: Advocating the measurement of poverty of Planning Commission, Congress spokesperson Raj Babbar had said on Wednesday that it was possible to have “full meal at Rs 12 in Mumbai” even today. “No no not vada paav. So much of rice, daal saambhar and with that some vegetables are also mixed.”

BJP had given a sharp reaction on this remark of Congress spokesperson and another Congress leader claimed that Rs 5 in Delhi is sufficient for a hearty meal.

Rasheed Masood said, “You can eat a meal in Delhi in Rs 5, I don’t know about Mumbai. You can get a meal for Rs 5 near Jama Masjid.”

It seems as an effort of Congress leader to defend the report of Planning Commission which said that poverty had been declined by 22 percent since the UPA government came in power are leading to nothing but debates across the country.

This figure of reduction of poverty in India by Planning Commission seems as a rumor because life of common men is badly affected by price rise and corruption. BJP and CPI-M are accusing the government for ignoring reality. Alliance of Congress, NCP also expressed its reservations.

The Congress, however, said that poverty had come down in the country due to the pro-poor policies of the UPA government.

Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said Planning Commission figures of poverty reduction were a conspiracy against the poor, designed to deprive them of welfare schemes. He asked the Congress to demonstrate how one can live on an income of Rs 34 a day.

On one hand life of common person had been badly affected by price rise and it become harder to survive for a poor person on other hand report of Planning Commission had made fun of poor people and poverty line. Two Congress leaders have claimed that they can have proper meal at unthinkable costs and that too in two metropolitan cities which is very depressing comment for poor.
