Congress meeting over Telangana issue today evening

New Delhi: UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh with top Congress leaders has a meeting this evening for the discussion over Separate Telangana state.

It is known as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Kiran Kumar Reddy had met with Sonia Gandhi and had a crucial meeting of Congress core group. After consultation, Reddy has come to Delhi with possible options on Telangana.

Meanwhile Pro-Telangana parties say they want nothing less than a separate state – financial packages or other sops won’t do. Member of Parliament of Congress V Hanumantha Rao today said if the party did not take a decision soon, the people of Telangana would be shattered.

TRS leader KT Rama Rao, who broke away from the UPA in 2006 over the issue, says there is no reason to believe that the Congress will go ahead with a separate Telangana, going by past record.

However if a separate state is finally created then Pro-Telangana leaders in the Congress don’t want the credit to go to the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS).

The BJP‘s Capt Abhimanyu has also challenged the Congress. He said, “In the 2002 Lok Sabha polls, Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi promised Telangana within one year. The BJP believes when the NDA comes to power, the dreams of the people from Telangana will come true.”
