New Delhi: The Supreme Court ofIndia has given the relief to BSP supremo Mayawati on Thursday over the allegation of corruption in development of the area around Taj Mahal in Uttar Pradesh. The bench of apex court has given this decision.
In 2012 July, the apex court had said that the CBI had exceeded its brief by extending a corruption investigation against the former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh Mayawati to Taj corridor case.
The decision of court to close the Taj Corridor inquiry had been challenged and was rejected today. The judges of bench of Supreme Court said that they had curbed the CBI only from looking into this aspect, and that the agency was free to study other instances of possible graft or Disproportionate Assets – whether Mayawati accumulated wealth beyond her income through alleged misuse of her office.
Mayawati had launched a project to provide better tourist facilities near the Taj Mahal in 2002 when she was chief minister of Uttar Pradesh which followed the allegations of a scam worth 17 crores.
