rohtak_honour_killing295Chandigarh: A day after butchering his daughter and her lover in full public view at Garnauthi village in Haryana’s Rohtak district, Narender alias billu, a canine farm owner and a wrestler, on Thursday showed scant regard for the law of the land and declared, “Whatever I did was right and for honour . If others also follow the same path, then such things (love marriages in violation of social norms) won’t take place.”Parents of 18-year-old Nidhi, who was killed in cold blood along with her lover, and her uncle were remanded in police custody on Thursday. In front of the Rohtak court, Billu did not show any remorse and told the local media that his daughter had brought disgrace to the family.

Police said Nidhi’s parents confessed to killing their daughter and her lover Dharmender since their affair had insulted the family in the society. According to Rohtak DSP Anil Kumar, who is probing the case, the girl’s mother Reeta also admitted that she was part of the conspiracy to kill the lover couple.”Nidhi’s parents said they consider a boy and girl from the same village and same gotra as brother and sister,” the DSP said. Dharmender, 22, and Nidhi of Jat community’s Barak gotra were killed on Wednesday evening, a day after they had eloped to Delhi. The couple was tracked by the girl’s family and brought to the village. Dharmender was beheaded in front of his house, while the girl was stabbed to death on the outskirts of the village. Apart from Nidhi’s parents, her uncle Ravinder was also arrested while the police were on the lookout for her brother Sunny, another relative Rajesh and Mahesh, driver of the vehicle used to bring the couple to the village from Delhi. The court sent Billu and Ravinder to police remand for five days while the girl’s mother was sent to judicial custody for 14 days. The police on Thursday searched for the weapons used in the crime. Sources said the accused had food at a dhaba at Sampla town of  Rohtak district while they were returning to the village from Delhi along with Nidhi and Dharmender.

When contacted, brother of Dharmender refused to say anything. “Nobody from the boy’s side lodged a complaint. We lodged an FIR on the basis of information received from our sources,” said Kalanaur police station SHO Ramesh Kumar.”Billu was very angry saying that Nidhi had brought bad name to the family,” said sources quoting the girl’s grandmother. A day after the gruesome killings, the tension prevailed in the Jat-dominated village and nobody was ready to speak about the murders.Meanwhile, relatives and villagers visited the victim’s houses on Thursday. Billu is the owner of a well-known dog-breeding farm. A condolence meeting was held at state institute of film and television, Rohtak, where Nidhi was pursuing a fine arts course. Dharmender was a student at the institute of industrial training in the same city.

The couple’s bodies were brought to the village on Thursday evening after autopsy in Rohtak. Nidhi’s body was cremated by her relatives and villagers as her parents were behind bars. Dharmender’s body was also created by his family members on Thursday evening. Police personnel have been deployed in front of the houses of Dharmender and Nidhi.
