Celebratory spirit soars as Navami, Dussehra coincide

Ravana-DussehraNew Delhi: Instead of burning the effigies of Raavan, Kumbhakaran and Meghnad, they tried to put on fire the real ‘evils’ of society by celebrating Dussehra with a difference. Taking its campaign ‘Save Girl Child’ or ‘Bhroon Hatya Roko’ to another level, Geeta Mandir, Vikas Nagar, invited a gynecologist to the Dussehra ground on Pakhowal road and organized a talk with migrant population to spread awareness against female feticide. Dr Neelam Sodhi, who delivered a talk, said News Channel, “I knew that my target audience was not easy to convince and thus I molded my talk according to their interest and told them that killing daughters will not help them in any way. I told them that if they think producing boys will get more manpower, then they are utterly wrong as educated girls are the biggest asset in today’s world.

The temple which started its campaign with beginning of Navratras also held a signature campaign, with people writing messages against female feticide. The Dussehra ground was decorated with hoardings reading messages against the evil. This is the real evil of society today and we strongly believe that burning this is more important, said Pardeep Dhall, secretary of Gita Mandir Committee, Vikas Nagar. Shital Prakash, a resident of Sudhaar, was on his green mission on Sunday as well. He along with some children took out a procession of a Raavan called global warming in which the Raavan effigy was made of the eco-friendly material, including papers and leaves, which was later immersed in the Abohar branch canal at Sudhaar. I distributed 70 saplings of tulsi and bel to children and we depicted global warming as the real Raavan for our society at present,” said Prakash, who has planted thousands of saplings in the district. Dussehra was also celebrated at various places in the city.
