EC to announce Assembly election dates today

election-commissionNew Delhi: The full Election Commission met on Friday morning in the national capital to decide on the dates for Assembly Elections to be held in five states later this year. As per the Press Information Bureau, the EC has finalized the dates and will announce the same at 4.30 pm this evening. Elections are due in Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram. The elections are most likely to start at the end of next month. While Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Mizoram are expected to hold elections in only one phase, Chhattisgarh may have two-phase elections considering it is a Naxal-infested state. Earlier reports had said that the EC has worked out three tentative dates for the elections — November 16, 17 and 27. The results for all states will likely be out by December 12. The panel has already asked the Union Home Ministry for 60,000 paramilitary personnel to be deployed in five states ahead of the polls.
