At the talks yesterday, which were attended by senior Congress leaders Digvijay Singh, Jairam Ramesh, Ahmed Patel and Motial Vora, it was decided that the Congress should stake claim to form the government, sources said.

Sources added that state leaders Chiranjeevi and Kanna Lakshminarayana are leading the race for CM’s post.

Meanwhile, Digvijay also hinted that the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) – the party which was born on the cause of creation of Telangana – will merge with the Congress. He said the consultation process between the two parties was over.

The TRS, however, denied any such headway. Party chief K Chandrasekhar Rao said nothing was finalized so far on alliance or merger talks with the Congress
