Arrested Sahara chief spends night in state forest dept guest houseNew Delhi: Sahara chief Subrata Roy spent the night at the UP forest department guest house located in Kukrail area after being arrested in Lucknow by the UP police.

Roy had surrendered before the Lucknow police minutes before the hurriedly-called press conference in the national capital on Friday.

UP police produced Subrata Roy in CJM court last evening and sought to keep him in custody to produce him before the Supreme Court on March 4.

Roy had pleaded before court to be allowed to stay at home. As per reports, the Sahara chief was taken to the guest house following Chief Judicial Magistrate Anand Kumar Yadav’s direction to the UP police to keep him in custody.

Though the court did not specify as to where Roy should be lodged until his next hearing, ASP Transgomti Habibul Hasan said Roy would be kept at the forest department guest house.

Cornered and facing imminent arrest, the Sahara chief had on Thursday tendered an “unconditional apology” to the Supreme Court for his non-appearance in a contempt case and sought recall of the non-bailable warrant issued against him.

He had also appealed to the “humane side” of the court to consider sympathetically the wishes of his mother and permit him to be with her in her last moments.

The order to arrest Roy was issued Thursday for his failure to appear before the apex court in a contempt case arising out of non refund of Rs 20,000 crore to investors by two of his companies.
