Sania respond over controversy, said will remain Indian until the end of lifeNew Delhi: Sania Mirza, the Indian Tennis player had respond over the controversy over being ‘Brand Ambassador’ of Telangana state and said that she is an Indian and will remain so until the end of her life.

She said, “I am married to Shoaib Malik, who is from Pakistan. I am an Indian, who will remain an Indian until the end of my life. My family belongs to Hyderabad for more than a century and I strongly condemn any attempts made by any person to brand me an outsider.”

“It hurts me that so much time is being wasted on a petty issue of my being appointed as brand ambassador of Telangana,” she added.

Her remarks came in the backdrop of Bharatiya Janata Party leaders opposing her appointment in the Assembly and questioning her loyalty towards India.

Laxman said, “Sania Mirza cannot become Telangana brand ambassador. She now lives in Pakistan.”

Meanwhile BJP had separated itself away from the comment of legislature. Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar had said, “This isn’t the BJP’s position. She is the pride of India and she has earned her reputation because of her skills. Someone saying something isn’t right.”

BJP MP and former cricketer Kirti Azad had also opposes the comment of Laxman and said, “No one in Parliament will appreciate this. I condemn this why should regional, religious identities of sport stars be talked about. They are ambassadors of India first.”

Notify that Sania Mirza had been appointed as “Brand Ambassador” of Telangana by CM K Chandrashekhar Rao on Tuesday and handed over a letter of appointment and also a cheque of Rs 1 crore to Sania at an interaction session with industrialists.
