New Delhi: Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju on Saturday said in Gurgaon that separate helpline and police force will be arrange for the secure stay of North East students in Delhi and NCR. Notify that crime against students from North East is increasing day by day and it seems that National Capital and its nearby area is not safe for them.
Three youths of Nagaland had been assaulted in Gurgaon few days ago. Rijiju said India is a democratic nation and hate crimes will not be tolerated.
Rijiju’s visit to Gurgaon today comes after locals assaulted three youths from Nagaland in Sikanderpur village of Gurgaon in a racially motivated attack.
The Nagaland youths were attacked by five people, who were in an inebriated state, after they allegedly refused to share a drink with them and got into an argument.
The attackers also cut the hair of one of the youths. Three of the five attackers have been arrested by the police.
Rijiju said, “Our society must exist harmoniously together and not be intolerant. We have decided to dedicate separate helpline and police force to deal with issues of students from North East region.”
Rijiju visited Gurgaon today to take stock of situation and met senior police officials of the area.
A high-level meeting will be held on the issue which will discuss steps required to prevent such future instances.
He also said, “Have also spoken to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and National Security Advisor in this concern.”
Rijiju further said that the central government has taken serious note of the matter and appropriate action will be taken.
He said that there is already a provision to prevent anti-racial attacks.
He said, “Will look into strengthening it further.”
