Army indicts 9 soldiers for killing two #Kashmiri youths in #Budgam firingSrinagar: The Indian Army has indicted nine soldiers including a Junior Commissioned Officer of 53 Rashtriya Rifles for killing two youth in Chattergam Chadoora area of Budgam district on November 3.

“The court of inquiry has found gross violation of rules of engagement by the soldiers. They have been indicted. There has been a total failure of the command by the officer in-charge of the Army column,” Greater Kashmir quoted an official as saying.

The army completed its inquiry into the firing incident in which two Kashmiri youths had lost their lives, while two others were injured and found gross violation by the jawans. The Court of Inquiry recommended court martial proceedings against them.

Faisal Yusuf son of Muhammad Yusuf and Mehraj-u-din Dar son Ghulam Muhammad of Chattergam were killed while two other youth critically injured after soldiers of Army’s 53 RR opened fire on a Maruti car.

The firing incident triggered rage across the state and condemnation. The army, terming the incident as “unfortunate” had promised a thorough probe into the incident. According to sources, reports say, the indicted soldiers are likely to face life imprisonment and lose all service benefits.
