Chidambaram said Manmohan Singh should have stepped down in 2G Spectrum

Chidambaram said Manmohan Singh should have stepped down in 2G SpectrumNew Delhi: Finance Minister during UPA-2 regime P Chidambaram said that UPA government could handle the allocation of 2G spectrum case better. He said that Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should have to step down in this issue and apologizes.

Chidambaram said, “The CAG report on 2G and other issues, clearly …hurt the Congress party. I think 2G could have been handled differently in the sense that the Prime Minister could have put his foot down and said I am sorry, I will not let you go forward with the first come first serve (FCFS) route.”

“Or after licenses had been granted and issue was brought up, he could have said cancel licenses without waiting for the judgement. It hurt us. My personal view was once this came out as a scandal of bandwidth allotment, the government should have cancelled all the licenses without waiting for the Supreme Court (judgement).”

Meanwhile Chidambaram over the question of why government did not cancel the licenses said the decision was taken to wait for the court verdict.

He said, “The decision was taken to wait for the Court verdict. These are the matters which do not come to the Cabinet. These are ideas which are discussed informally.”

“I think the idea as suggested and considered. I always believed it was a pretty simple decision rather than suffer any judgement and then try to work out consequent.”

But the major question rises that Chidambaram himself was finance minister during 2G spectrum allocation and he too have power to raise the question and suggest government to not go with first come first serve route. But not even Chidambaram raise voice against 2G spectrum allocation or with other scams. He too condemned the reports of CAG over scams.
