Russian: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in the Myanmarese capital to attend the ASEAN and the East Asia summits on the first leg of his three- nation tour that will also take him to Australia and Fiji. Modi expressed his confidence in strengthening the relationship between the countries and said he is sure that India-Russia ties will be strengthened.
While Modi recalled his visit to Russia in 2001 and said the relationship between the countries will be strengthen, Russian PM Medvedev reportedly said that “India is a closed and valued partner for us. Speaking on the East Asia Summit today in Nay Pyi Taw, Modi stressed on the need to take an initiative on clean energy. Modi has mentioned that India has contributed $12 million in the efforts against Ebola.
After the East Asia Summit, Modi is expected to hold talks with many world leaders.
On his 3-nation tour, Modi will head to Australia from November 14 to 18 where he is scheduled to have a roundtable conference with top Australian business leaders, including BHP Billiton CEO Andrew Mackenzie and HSBC Bank Australia CEO Tony Cripps, in Melbourne.
The conference is likely to open up for discussions regarding business matters and future plans. Amid, after the meeting Modi is scheduled to address a gathering of about 500 Australian Indian businessmen, where he will deliver a speech.
India has signed bilateral civil nuclear cooperation agreement with Australia in September, which is a key in operational sing the uranium supply deal, a pact on the administrative arrangements. However, as per reports, it is not likely to be signed when Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits Australia.
Meanwhile, apart from the nuclear deal, Modi is expected to sign in some other agreements that include transfer of sentenced prisoners, a pact on combating narcotics, a social security agreement and MoUs on tourism and cultural cooperation. Since 1986, Modi is the first PM to visit Australia and will become the first Indian PM to address Australian Parliament.
