Washington: Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel resigned under pressure on Monday after President Obama determined that he had to shake up his national security team in the face of escalating conflicts overseas and hawkish Republicans reasserting themselves on Capitol Hill.
68 years old Hagel’s resignation came under pressure from the US President Barack Obama who asked him to quit, as Pentagon embarked a new strategy to deal with the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
President Barack Obama accepted the resignation of Defence Secretary Chuck Hagel and paid tribute to his class and integrity.
