Maine Pyar Kiya's 25th #anniversary today, #Killer #Dialogues to a #shirtless Salman KhanMumbai: On December 29, 1989 – 24-year-old Salman Khan played the very first in a series of heroes named Prem. That was 25 years ago. The blockbuster hit that was Maine Pyar Kiya – co-starring Bhagyashree as Suman – was possessed of the charm so peculiar to Eighties Bollywood – despite the cheesy moments, and there were many, it was hard to resist.

Maine Pyar Kiya 1989’s musical directed by Sooraj Barjatya holds a special place in the hearts of many who grew up in ’80s. The film redefined friendship and romance in Bollywood. MPK was in every manner a trendsetter that paved the path for many more such films. Everything – from the film’s costumes to its dialogue and the soulful songs – makes Maine Pyar Kiya, an epitome of romance. Besides being a cult romance, the film established Salman Khan and Sooraj Barjatya in B-town. As the Maine Pyar Kiya turns 25 today, we take a look at some interesting facts about the film.

Salman had no work for almost a year post MPK: Maine Pyar Kiya was a massive hit. The film had also fetched seven Filmfare Awards from the 13 nominations at the 35th Filmfare Awards held in 1990. Despite this, Salman had no work for almost a year after the film released. Salman, in an interview to Rajat Sharma on Aap Ki Adaalat, had revealed that after months of waiting when he was still not getting any film offers, his father Salim Khan published an advertisement in a trade magazine that the good looking actor was signed by a big producer. It was after this advertisement that film offers started pouring in for Salman.
