#Mahinda #Rajapaksa concede defeat in #presidential elections in #SriLankaColombo: Mahinda Rajapaksa, the former President of Sri Lanka had defeat in the presidential race on Friday with his opposition candidate Maithripala Sirisena.

An official statement from Rajapaksa said, “President Rajapaksa left Temple Trees bowing to the people’s mandate in the presidential election.”

It has been expected that Sirisena will declare winner by around 4,00,000 votes with final result yet to be declared.

It said, “President had talks with the main opposition leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and conveyed his wish to let the new President take over without any hindrance.”

Rajapaksa, who sought a record third term, was involved in a grim battle for survival.

Notify that there were 19 candidates in the fray.
