3 accused #arrested in #Mumbai gang-#rape #case Mumbai: Three men gang-raped a 21-year-old girl in a parking lot in Cotton Green in the wee hours of Tuesday. The trio was arrested yesterday after the parking lot attendant intimated the beat patrol on seeing the three men with the girl.

However, as they de-boarded the train at Cotton Green station, the accused threatened the victim and took her to a truck parking nearby, where they took turns to rape her. A police party which was patrolling in the area rushed to rescue the victim hearing her cries and arrested the three accused from the spot. The accused reportedly work at a goldsmith workshop, while the victim is a slum dweller.

The main accused has been identified as Saleem Sheikh. A medical examination of the victim confirmed rape. Police said that the accused were not habitual offenders with no past criminal records.

“It is a case of rape and a case has been registered under Section 376. A complaint has been lodged by the victim. All the three culprits involved were arrested and presented before the court. The court sent the culprits to police custody till February 9. Further investigation in the case is underway,” said Investigation officer, Balliram Vithalrao Dhas.

Kalachowkie cops then came to the parking lot and arrested the trio for raping the young girl. All the three accused have been booked for gang rape, and were produced in Bhoiwada court, said a Kalachowkie police official. They have been remanded to police custody till February 9.
