Bengaluru: An express train which is bound for Ernakulam in Kerala from Bengaluru derailed near Anekal had been derailed on Friday with eight passengers died and over 50 injured with some of them critically.
The accident had been occurred 45 KM away from Bengaluru.
Railway officials reported that about nine coaches of the Bangalore City-Ernakulam Intercity Express have been derailed in the mishap that took place between Anekal-Hosur on the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border at around 7.40 am.
Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu will visit the spot in order to take stock of the situation
Several ambulance and rescue operation teams had been rushed to the spot by Karnataka government.
Sources said that injured trapped in derailed bogies were being pulled out and rushed to hospitals in Bengaluru and nearby Hosur.
Two teams of the National Disaster Response Force have been rushed to the spot.
Divisional Railway Manager (Bangalore) Anil Kumar Agarwal said, “We are not still certain about casualties as of now; it should be less than 10.”
Railway official said that the Bangalore City-Ernakulam Intercity Express had left Bengaluru at 0615 hrs and derailed at 0735 hrs between Anekal Road and Hosur on Bangalore City-Salem Section.
