Another #Nirbhaya like case: No arrests in #gangrape of Nepalese woman in #Rohtak, Residents Demand ActionChandigarh: Enraged with the gang rape and murder of a mentally challenged Nepalese woman in Haryana’s Rohtak district last Sunday, residents of Rohtak have demanded immediate action against the culprits as no one has yet been arrested.

Protests erupted in Rohtak on Sunday as the Haryana police failed to nab the culprits involved in the brutal gangrape and murder of a mentally-challenged Nepalese woman last week. Women and Nepalese organizations blocked Rohtak-Delhi road for an hour in the evening. Later the crowd dispersed after the SP promised action.

The 28-year-old mentally challenged woman was abducted on 1 February and her mutilated body was found in the fields of Akbarpur village on 4 February, according to PTI report. The body was recovered in a decomposing state, without key body organs and instead, sticks, stones, blades and condoms were stuffed into her private parts. Also, it was difficult to recognise her face as it was attacked by wild animals.

Sources close to the investigators told TOI that the body of the 28-year-old woman was found around 50 feet away from the national highway connecting Delhi to Hisar. “Her footwear and shirt were missing from the spot,” said sources.

Cops believe that the woman was brought to the spot in a semi-conscious condition after the sexual assault. The spot from where the body was recovered is a wheat field. “It was difficult to commit the crime at such a place, especially when vehicles keep moving on the highway,” cops claimed. However, they feel that the woman was subjected to further brutality at this spot to ensure that she was dead.

However, doctors who conducted the autopsy told the investigators that the number of persons involved could be more than three. “Injury marks, especially on chest, indicated struggle by the woman,” said a medical officer who was part of the medical team which conducted the autopsy.

Sources said police got leads after examining the footage of CCTV cameras installed in Rohtak city. ADGP (law and order) Mohammad Akil on Sunday visited the spot near Bahu Akbarpur village from where the body was recovered on February 4.

All India Democratic Women Association (AIDWA) Haryana unit joint secretaries Savita Berwal told TOI that women activists and members of social organizations staged protests at the district headquarters in Hisar, Sonipat, Sirsa and other places. A candle march was also held to show solidarity with the family of the woman.
