UP: 10 dead, over 30 injured in #train collision with tractor in #BijnorLucknow: A train rammed a tractor trolley at a railway crossing on Najibabad Kotdwar road near Samirpur in Bijnor of Uttar Pradesh killing 10 people and injuring more than 30 others, a police official said on Wednesday.

As per reports, four people died on the spot after the collision while the injured are currently undergoing treatment.

Police official Shailendra Lal said, “The train was going from Najibabad to Kotdwar, it collided with the tractor at Semapur level crossing. Three people died on the spot, 23 injured were taken to Semapur hospital. 19 people were referred to district hospital, one died in this hospital and the other three are under treatment.”

He said that the tractor was crossing the railroad track near the town of Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh state when it was hit by the passenger train late on Tuesday.

He also said that the wagon was overcrowded with people returning from a ceremony at a nearby Hindu holy town near the Ganges River.

Thirty-three people were injured in the accident. Six of them were in critical condition and were taken to a hospital in the nearest big city of Meerut.

The state government has, meanwhile, announced Rs 2 lakh each as compensation to the families of those killed and Rs 50 thousand each to the injured.
