New Delhi: Law Minister of Aam Aadmi Party led Delhi government Jitendra Singh Tomar had been arrested by Delhi Police on Tuesday morning. Sources said that he had been arrested in fake degree case.
Police sources said an FIR was registered last night against Tomar on charges of cheating and forgery. Tomar faces allegations that he faked his law degree.
The arrest came as a complete surprise to the Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi; Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia looked stunned as he emerged from an address to an industry body. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has called an emergency meeting at the Delhi Secretariat.
Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia claimed that emergency like situation is being created in Delhi through Lt Governor at a time when AAP Govt. is taking steps against corruption.
He also said that corrupt leaders are trying to create an emergency like situation in Delhi.
Sisodia maintained that AAP government’s biggest achievement till date is that we have shaken the roots of corruption.
Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi said, “I have no information yet with me. I was in a meeting, I will give details shortly.”
His reaction raised eyebrows, coming as it did after the police had not only arrested Mr Tomar, but also taken him to the Hauz Khas police station and then shifted him to another police station in Vasant Vihar.
Outside both police stations were barricades and other signs of security preps.
