Adani group to set up solar park of Rs. 4,536 crore solar park in TNChennai: The global infrastructure player Adani Group will set up a solar park of Rs. 4,536 crore in Ramanathapuram district of Tamil Nadu. The solar park will generate 648 Mega Watt of solar power.

A State Government release said that a memorandum had been signed by Adani Group with Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Ltd in the presence of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa to set up five solar power generation facilities in Kazhuthi taluk.

Managing Director of Adani Group Rajesh Adani had given a detailed presentation on the project to the Chief Minister and officials at the State Secretariat.

Minister of Electricity and Non-Conventional Energy Development R Viswanathan in  recent seminar said that it is the first major solar power project in the recent times in Tamil Nadu, which plans to buy nearly 2,000 MW of solar power by the end of this calendar year.

He also said that a target to buy around 1,000 MW of power to every year had been set by State Government.

Based on the Solar Power Policy of 2012, last September, Tangedco said that it would purchase solar power at ₹7.1 per unit. Accordingly, it has signed power purchase agreement (PPA) with 31 solar power producers for 436 MW solar power generation, the release said.

With today’s Memorandum of Understanding with the Adani group, Tangedco has so far signed PPAs for 1,084 MW solar power at a total investment of ₹7,588 crore, the release said.

According to the press release of Adani Group, Adani Group has set a target of 10,000 MW of solar power by 2022. It has recently signed a joint venture agreement with the Rajasthan Government to set up a 10,000 MW solar park, which will emerge as the largest such integrated facility in India.
