Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh on Monday moved a court here seeking directions to CBI to supply copy of FIR lodged against him and others in an alleged disproportionate assets case, two days after the agency conducted searches at his Delhi and Shimla residence. . Singh had on Sunday said that he has “nothing to hide”, in his first reaction over the allegations of Disproportionate Assets against him.
“I was on the way to temple for my daughter’s marriage ceremony when I encountered the CBI team outside my house at Shimla,” Singh tweeted. I proceeded?to the wedding ceremony, opened my house doors to the CBI & asked them to check what they want(ed), as I have nothing to hide,” he added.
In an unprecedented action on a serving Chief Minister, CBI recently raided the official residence of Singh in Shimla and 12 other places in connection with an alleged disproportionate assets case on a day his daughter was getting married.
In the wake of CBI raids, BJP leaders of the state, including former Chief Minister PK Dhumal, have demanded Singh’s resignation on moral grounds. The Congress Legislature Party also met and expressed “unflinching support” to Singh.
The Congress said all its 34 MLAs and four independent MLAs, who attended the meeting, rejected demands for Singh’s resignation and decided to submit a memorandum to President Pranab Mukherjee against the “political vendetta” unleashed by the Central BJP leadership against the Congress-led government. The party alleged misuse of CBI to destabilize “the strong and popular” democratically-elected Congress government.
