Rahul Gandhi to address rally in Bihar today; Lalu, Nitish likely to be skipPatna: JD (U) on Friday tried to play down chief minister Nitish Kumar’s decision to skip Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s rally in Bihar’s West Champaran district on Saturday, saying it was due to his preoccupation in Patna. RJD chief Lalu Prasad, too, will be absent from the rally.

The party believes with RJD chief Lalu Prasad and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar addressing the rally with the theme of “Samata and Samrasata” (equity and harmony), the anti-BJP alliance will be able drive home the message of social justice with greater force.

Congress plans to make the proposed rally at Ram Nagar in West Champaran district a “mega” affair after the alliance’s Swabhiman rally in Patna on August 30 which was attended by Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Lalu Yadav and Nitish.

However, according to reports, Lalu and Nitish are likely to give the rally a miss. It was earlier reported that Lalu he would not be able to go to Ramnagar and instead he would send his son Tejaswi Yadav.

Bihar Congress President Ashok Choudhary had yesterday told PTI that they have received a communication that like RJD supremo Lalu Prasad, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is occupied with seat allotment and selection of candidates and hence would not be able to it make to the Ramnagar programme. He, however, said too much of political meaning should not be read into it
