#Chandigarh : Rumours were flying thick and fast on Tuesday night as one group of the Nirankari sect was projecting the youngest daughter of the late Baba Hardev Singh, the Nirankari sect head, Sudeeksha, tipped to become Nirankari head, whereas the other group was confident enough in claiming that the Baba’s wife Sawinder Kaur was appointed the next head of the sect. The formal announcement, however, is expected to be made on Wednesday after the last rites of Baba Hardev Singh are performed at Delhi’s Nigam Bodh Ghat on Wednesday, sources said.
Unconfirmed reports including messages on social media suggested that the appointment of Sawinder Kaur was done on late Tuesday night. According to information, a 21-member committee that advises the Nirankari head on administrative matters had been discussing the succession plan. A member of the committee said the discussions were held in a secret since the focus was on the last rites. It’s pertinent to mention that Baba Hardev Singh had gone to Canada on that ill-fated trip to work out the logistics for an international congregation planned between June 29 and July 6 in Toronto. Sudeeksha’s husband Avneet Setya also died in the accident. DP
