Violence after former Unian Minister  V Narayanasamy is announced as Puducherry CM#Paducherry :  All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary and former Union Minister of State V. Narayanasamy has been unanimously elected as Congress Legislature Party leader to become next Chief Minister of Union Territory of Puducherry.

This announcement was made by former Delhi Chief Minister Shelia Dikshit and AICC general secretary Mukul Wasnik who had been deputed as observers by the Congress leadership after holding consultations with newly elected MLAs.

Ms. Dikshit said the decision was unanimously endorsed by all the MLAs, Pradesh Congress Comittee president A. Namassivayam and seconded by former Chief Minister V. Vaithilingam.

Party president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi congratulated Mr. Narayanasamy over the phone.

Namassivayam’s suuporters go on the rampage

As news broke out that Mr. Narayanasamy has been elected as the new Chief Minister, supporters of Mr. Namassivayam raised slogans against the decision.

They alleged that Mr. Narayanasamy who had stated that he was not in the race for the Chief Minister post, had now worked behind the scenes to ensure that he was elected unopposed.

Hours after the announcement, supporters of Mr. Namassivayam went on a rampage, protesting against the decision to make Mr. Narayanasamy the Chief Minister.

Over 10 buses were reportedly attacked on East Coast Road from Puducherry to Chennai, leaving many stranded. Police resort to lathicharge. Several, including a news photographer, was injured. by Agencies,
