#Bangalore : #ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) will script history if it is able to successfully launch 20 satellites on June 22. Apart from India’s latest earth observation Cartosat-2 Series Satellite, satellites from US, Germany, Canada and Indonesia are part of the total 20 that will be launched on Wednesday.ISRO’s workhorse Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C34) is scheduled to lift-off with the satellites at 9.26 AM from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota.
We take a look at some latest updates from the mission and some interesting facts about it:
India’s earth observation spacecraft Cartosat-2 Series satellite, which is similar to the earlier Cartosat-2, 2A and 2B, and 19 co-passenger satellites together weighing about 560 kg at lift-off would be injected into a 505 km polar Sun Synchronous Orbit.
The imagery sent by the satellite will be useful cartographic applications, urban and rural applications, coastal land use and regulation, utility management like road network monitoring, water distribution, creation of land use maps, precision study, change detection to bring out geographical and man made features and various other Land Information System (LIS) and Geographical Information System (GIS) applications.
It will be the fourteenth flight of PSLV in ‘XL’ configuration (with the use of solid strap-on motors).
The co-passengers include satellites from the US, Canada, Germany and Indonesia as well as two satellites from Indian Universities. The mission would carry LAPAN A3 of Indonesia, BIROS of Germany, SKYSAT GEN 2-1 of US, MVV of Germany among the micro satellites.
According to ISRO, the total weight of all the 20 satellites is about 1,288 kg.
Spacecraft health checks and preparations for propellant filling operation of second stage (PS2) of PSLV-C34 are under progress. Countdown is progressing normally.
A 48-hour countdown began on June 20 for the launch. The countdown began at 9.26 AM after the launch authorisation board (LAB) gave the clearance for the mission yesterday and the process of filling the fuel was underway.
