2 held at IGI with Rs1.2cr in foreign notesNewDelhi: A woman and her daughter from Kyrgyzstan were arrested at the IGI Airport for trying to smuggle foreign currency worth nearly Rs 1.27 crore to Bishkek.

The mother was apprehended by CISF officials on Sunday and was handed over to the customs department. While CISF had initially discovered foreign currency worth 60,000 US dollars with her, CCTV surveillance found that the female passenger had another unclaimed bag that she had not taken.

"One more bag was found unattended after CCTV surveillance was checked. That bag also belonged to the woman but she had not claimed it. It contained 13 bundles of USD 100 notes," said a senior CISF official.

A total of 141,290 US dollars was recovered by the CISF before handing the luggage over to the customs, which said a detailed examination of the luggage and the passenger found 201,172 US dollars.

An interrogation of the passenger revealed that she had got that money after selling 4,472 grams of gold that she had brought illegally to India.

Officials say subsequently it was discovered that the woman's daughter had also brought in gold to India illegally, following which she was arrested from a hotel in central Delhi's Paharganj.
