Chandigarh: Congress finally ends the suspense over the Chief Minister face for Punjab. Rahul Gandhi today named Charanjit Singh Channi as the CM face for the upcoming assembly polls in Punjab.
while addressing ‘Aawaz Punjab Di’, Rahul Gandhi clarify the CM face of Punjab for Congress as Charanjeet Singh Channi. Rahul said Congress does not have a dearth of diamonds, the party is full stars.
After the announcement, CM channi on Twitter tweeted, “I sincerely thank the Congress High Command and people of Punjab for bestowing their trust in me. As you have seen us work so hard in the last 111 days to take Punjab forward, I assure you to take Punjab and Punjabis on the path of progress with new zeal and dedication.”
Rahul Gandhi in virtual meeting said, “A leader is not made in 10-15 days. He is born from fights and struggles. Sidhu, Channi, Jakhar— all have walked on difficult paths and learnt. Too difficult to pick a diamond among so many diamonds. ‘
“The Congress has a team.. you must be wondering that at times people in Congress speak too much, but we accept it. Many People say the party should not tolerate indiscipline. Yes, discipline should be there, but we have flexibility, we want to listen to everyone’s voice. We don’t want the rule of any one person. You go to Delhi – be it Narendera Modi, be it Kejriwal, over there it’s only one person who calls the shot. If ‘king’ has taken a decision, then everything ends over there. But Punjab can’t be ruled like this, in Punjab, there are different voices and ideologies. It’s only the Congress party that can take everyone along and take the State forward. Congress has a vision and it displayed it on several occasions.”
Rahul Gandhi said, “I asked the people, working committee members, our candidates and the youth, I am announcing their mandate…. People of Punjab have said we want a CM from a poor family, we want someone who understands poverty, hunger, the insecurities of the poor, because Punjab needs a person like that”.
Congress state President of Congress, Navjyot Singh Siddhu said, “Aitki Sidhu dasvi ghoda nahin, race jittan wala arabi ghoda banuga (This time Sidhu will not be the last horse in the race, rather he’d be the winning Arabian horse).”
“In the end, I have already accepted the decision of Rahul Gandhi,” he added, minutes before Rahul Gandhi delivered his speech.
Notable that Rahul Gandhi and the two main contenders — Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and Congress’ state unit chief Navjot Singh Sidhu — were seen travelling in the same car. Congress leader Sunil Kumar Jakhar also shared the ride with the trio and take all leaders in confidence before the announcement of CM candidate for Punjab.
The moment Rahul Gandhi made public the chief ministerial face, cheers erupted from the listening crowd.
Voters of Punjab broke into celebrations in all over Punjab including his house at Morinda in Chamkaur Sahib.
Waving Congress flags, people burst crackers and danced on the beats of ‘dhol’.
Congress supporters also celebrated Channi’s nomination as CM face outside the venue of the virtual rally in Ludhiana.
