New Delhi: Over the controversy of alleged helping former Indian Premier League (IPL) chief Lalit Modi Chief Minister of Rajasthan, senior leader of Bharatiya Janata Party said that Vasundhara Raje is ready to quit for the post of Chief Minister if other party leaders accused in Lalitgate to do so.
Bharatiya Janata Party is unlikely to take an immediate decision against her over the allegations.
Party sources said Raje has told the top leadership that she will step down from the CM’s post if other leaders facing accusations also quit.
Meanwhile sources also claimed that the BJP is not going to take any action against the Rajasthan CM immediately. The decision comes after Raje told the BJP that she signed Lalit Modi’s immigration papers in her personal capacity as his friend and not as an official.
Sources also reveal that Raje has claimed that the document did not help Lalit Modi in United Kingdom. Raje is consulting experts to see if she can take legal action on the document being leaked.
Raje on Thursday insisted that she has not been asked to resign and claimed that media is running “false” reports to tarnish her image and cause “political damage”.
A statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Press Advisor said a few electronic news channels were showing reports beyond the truth.
It said, “By tarnishing or damaging her image, the channels are causing political damage to Chief Minister.”
It also said, “Electronic media should not run false news based on rumours. Such news are baseless and rumour-oriented, and before running such news, a confirmation and investigation should be required.”
It may be noted that apart from Raje, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has also been facing allegations of helping Lalit Modi.
Swaraj has admitted to helping Modi secure travel documents from the UK government last year for visiting Portugal for the treatment of his cancer-stricken wife.
Swaraj claimed that she helped Modi on “humanitarian grounds” but Opposition has alleged quid pro quo as her husband and daughter have represented Modi in courts.
Meanwhile, Raje, who is scheduled to visit Delhi on June 27 for a meeting of the Niti Aayog, has not been asked to resign so far.
