Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Elections, the BJP registered victory in the Rajouri Garden Assembly constituencyNew Delhi: Just 10 days ahead of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday registered victory in the Rajouri Garden Assembly constituency.

After the end of the 17th and last round of counting, BJP’s Manjinder Singh Sirsa defeated Congress’ Meenakshi Chandela and AAP’s Harjeet Singh.

Sirsa polled 40,602 votes, Chandela 25,950 and the AAP`s Harjeet Singh 10,243.

Even while the counting was underway, the Aam Aadmi Party had conceded its defeat.

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that people were angry over sending Jarnail Singh to Punjab to contest Assembly Elections. He, however, exuded confidence of winning the upcoming MCD polls.

Only 47 percent voting was registered in the Rajouri Garden Assembly by-poll on Sunday.

In the 2015 Assembly Elections, when the Aam Aadmi Party swept to power, the constituency had witnessed 72 percent.

AAP’s Harjeet Singh, Congress’ Meenakshi Chandela, and BJP-SAD’s Manjinder Singh Sirsa are in the fray for the seat.

The seat fell vacant as AAP’s Jarnail Singh resigned to contest the Punjab Assembly polls.

For the BJP and the Congress, success in the by-election is crucial for their continuing relevance in the city’s politics while it will be a test for the AAP’s popularity.
