“It was Rahul Gandhi who lost”: Raman Singh

Raman SinghRaipur: Dr. Raman Singh, the third term chief minister of Chhattisgarh on Thursday, said that the Congress rout in the November assembly polls was in fact a defeat of Congress scion Rahul Gandhi, who took personal interest in handpicking his party candidates for the November assembly elections.

Dr. Singh said while addressing the press conference, “It’s not the state Congress that was defeated in the elections, it was Rahul Gandhi who lost. The Congress vice-president took personal interest and deployed party observers in all constituencies but all crumbled in the pro-incumbency wave.”

He also said, “We have won the election for the third time. It also puts a great responsibility on us”, he said adding that the heavy polling turned out to be due to pro-incumbency factor. “We had fulfilled our promises and the people endorsed our policies and programmes.”

“Earlier, it was believed that polling over 60 per cent would always go against the incumbent government but the elections this time proved that people would re-elect the government that works for their welfare and development,” he added.
