Mumbai: The Maharashtra cabinet on Tuesday decided to slash prices of petrol and diesel by Rs 2 and Re 1 respectively. The new prices will be effective from midnight.
Earlier this morning, the Gujarat government reduced the value added tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel by 4 percent.
The announcement was made by state’s Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.
The reduction in tax comes just before Diwali in the state, where the Assembly polls are due around the year-end.
“After the central government’s instructions, Gujarat has decided to reduce VAT on petrol and diesel by 4 percent from today mid-night,” Rupani said at a press meet.
