November 14 can be Uncle Day, not Children's Day: BJP parliamentarians write to PM Modi.NewDelhi: In a request to disassociate Jawaharlal Nehru’s name from Children’s Day celebrations in the country, as many as 100 BJP parliamentarians have written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting that December 26 should instead be celebrated as Children’s Day.

Citing that November 14 is a day more about Nehru’s love for children than to raise awareness about welfare of children, the parliamentarians write that celebrations should be held on a day when minor sons of Guru Gobind Singh  – Shahibzada Ajit Singh (18), Jujhar Singh (14), Jorawar Singh (9) and Fateh Singh (7) – gave supreme sacrifice against Mughals. “14 November can be celebrated attributed as “Uncle Day” or “Chacha Diwas” instead of Children Day as Shri Jawahar Lal Nehru was fondly called “Chacha Nehru,” the letter addressed to PM Modi read. “26 December, when Chhote Sahibzades were martyred, should be celebrated as Children’s Day in India. It will be a reminder to the children about having faith in one’s own courage and the drive to  fight for what is right.”

The letter has been signed by 100 BJP parliamentarians.
