Baramulla: Three civilians were on Monday killed in an attack by terrorists in Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir. The suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists shot dead the civilians in the Old Town of Baramulla district.
Confirming the incident, Jammu and Kashmir DGP Shesh Paul Vaid said on Twitter, “Three innocent young boys brutally gunned down by terrorists in old Baramulla town today evening. This shows how life of a common man is threatened by terrorism in the valley.”
Reacting to the incident, former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah said that he would like to condemnation of the attack by separatist leaders, adding that often attack security forces in case of civilian deaths.
He tweeted, “3 civilians have been murdered by terrorists in Baramulla just now. I’d like to see the separatist leaders issue the sort of condemnation they usually reserve for when civilians are killed by security forces.”
The militants opened fire at the trio around 8.30 pm from a very close range in Iqbal Market at the Old Town, leaving them dead on the spot, the police said.
The three persons, Asif Ahmad Sheikh, Haseeb Ahmad Khan and Mohmmad Asgar, all in their early 20s, were residents of Kakkar Hamam in Baramulla, a police official said.
Director General of Police S P Vaid confirmed the killings in the attack and said senior police officials have rushed to the spot in north Kashmir. Preliminary police investigation revealed complicity of the Pakistan-based LeT terror group.
One Pakistan-based and two other local militants of Old Town, Baramulla are the principal suspects in this case and wanted by the law, the police official said. The police have launched detailed investigation into the matter, he added.
