Hyderabad : A 16-year-old girl from the Bahadurpura area of Hyderabad has alleged that she was repeatedly gang-raped and threatened by four men for the past four years. Three of the four men, reportedly her cousin and two others, have been arrested.
In her statement, reports The Indian Express, the girl has alleged that the accused began assaulting her in 2015. They had spiked her soft drink with sedatives, raped her, filmed it on one of their cellphones and shared the video with a few others. They then repeatedly issued threats to her in the course of the nearly four-year period.
the accused were the girl’s cousin and his friends, Times Now has said that they were tenants who lived in the first floor of the house owned by the girl’s father. Police officials told The Indian Express said the victim’s father had adopted the main accused, the son of his sister when he was six-years-old.
The survivor narrated the ordeal to her family on 24 December, after being issued fresh threats by one of the accused. She and her family then approached a Bharosa centre run by the city police, reports say. Until then, neither the girl’s family nor anyone else had been aware of the incident.
A case has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Three of the four, reportedly called Raj, Shubham and Abhijit, are in police custody while the fourth person, who was named as a witness by police, has been absconding.
“How can they turn an accused into a witness. A friend of another accused has also been made witness. What if they change the story in court? We want all the guilty to be punished immediately,” a cousin of the girl told NDTV.
The girl’s family and neighbours staged protests as well.
