WestBengal: Hitting out at the Mamata government in West Bengal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday warned that Trinamool Congress (TMC) goons would find no place to hide and no one to save them after the results of the West Bengal Assembly elections are declared on May 4. He added that the first-phase voting had sounded the death knell for the TMC’s reign of “jungle rule” in the state.
Addressing a public rally in Dum Dum assembly constituency, PM Modi said, ” Last night, TMC was empowering their goons all night long. I say to the people of Bengal, BJP workers, and the public: Do not forget that this is the land of revolution, this is the land of the brave. After the results come on May 4, the TMC’s goons will find no place to hide, no one to save them. Yesterday’s first-phase voting has sounded the death knell for the TMC’s reign of jungle rule.”
In his speech during the rally, PM Modi described the mother of the RG Kar rape-murder victim as a symbol of justice. Notably, the BJP has fielded the mother of the RG Kar victim from the Panihati Assembly constituency against Trinamool Congress candidate Tirthankar Ghosh.
The RG Kar incident refers to the August 2024 rape and murder of a 31‑year‑old trainee doctor inside R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, which triggered nationwide protests over women’s safety and hospital security.
Accusing the TMC of being an anti-women party, PM Modi said the BJP would not allow anyone to trample the dreams of Bengal’s daughters if voted to power. He added that women’s safety would be the party’s priority.
“TMC does not want women to dream. Today, I assure every daughter of Bengal that the BJP will not allow anyone to trample their dreams. I assure you that the safety of women will be our priority,” he said.
PM Modi also promised to reopen investigations into all cases of atrocities against women.
“On May 4, after the BJP government is formed, cases related to atrocities against women will be reopened. This is Modi’s guarantee,” he said.
Women empowerment
Accusing the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government of being anti-women, PM Modi assured the daughters of Bengal that the BJP would not let their dreams be crushed.
“They do not want that our daughters should move freely, dream under an open sky. Today, I have come to assure every daughter of Bengal that the BJP will not let their dreams be crushed,” he said.
West Bengal Assembly election
PM Modi’s statement comes at a time when the first phase of the elections has concluded. In the first phase, held on April 23, voting took place across 152 Assembly seats, and a voter turnout of approximately 92% was recorded. The second phase is scheduled for April 29, covering the remaining 142 Assembly seats in the state. The votes for all 294 seats will be counted on May 4.
