NewDelhi: The national capital has been placed on high alert after intelligence inputs indicating a potential terror threat, prompting the Delhi Police and other security agencies to step up surveillance across several sensitive locations, according to sources on Saturday.
As per the source, security has been tightened at the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters on Deen Dayal Upadhyaya (DDU) Marg and nearby government establishments, with additional armed personnel deployed, barricades installed, and vehicle checks intensified.
According to sources, security agencies have received intelligence inputs warning of possible attempts to target key offices and crowded areas in central Delhi through suicide attacks, vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices (IEDs), shootings, and coordinated terror strikes.
“There is an alert for a terrorist attack at the Delhi State BJP office and government offices on DDU Marg, following which security has been heightened to address any potential threats. Security agencies have been alerted,” a source said.
Sources said anti-sabotage inspections are being conducted at key government buildings, political offices, markets, transport hubs, and other crowded locations across the city. Bomb disposal squads, sniffer dog teams, quick reaction units, and the Delhi Fire Service have also been directed to remain on high alert.
Security measures have also been intensified in settlements and areas considered sensitive from a law-and-order standpoint, with local police carrying out random checks and verification drives.
The source said all district units have been directed to stay vigilant and maintain close coordination with intelligence agencies and central paramilitary forces. According to the source, senior officials are continuously monitoring the situation and reviewing security arrangements across the city.
Security arrangements have been beefed up in the national capital to deal with any situation. No specific details about the nature or source of the threat have been officially disclosed so far.
The Special Cell of the Delhi Police on April 10 busted a major espionage network allegedly operated by Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and the banned outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) and arrested 11 persons connected with it.
As a result of the crackdown, 11 people were arrested from several places in Delhi and Punjab. Police said they had been installing cameras across different parts of the country.
As per the police, the accused were in direct contact with Pakistan-based handlers through encrypted applications and were receiving instructions to carry out espionage and subversive activities targeting national security.
