Netherlands: Narendra Modi, during his official visit to the Netherlands, addressed the Indian community and delivered a strong message on global challenges, India’s rise on the world stage, and the growing partnership between India and the Netherlands.
Speaking at the gathering, Prime Minister Modi said the current period is increasingly becoming “a decade of disasters” for the world. He warned that if global conditions do not improve in time, the consequences could become serious for decades to come. The Prime Minister stressed the importance of global cooperation, stability, and sustainable development in dealing with emerging international challenges.
Highlighting India’s achievements, PM Modi said the country is moving ahead with confidence in sectors such as technology, innovation, infrastructure, and space exploration. He noted that India has achieved historic milestones in space and continues to emerge as a major global force in innovation and development.
The Prime Minister also praised the Indian diaspora for preserving Indian culture and values abroad. He said that while the world has changed rapidly over time, Indian traditions, warmth, and cultural identity continue to remain deeply rooted among people across the globe.

During the visit, Prime Minister Modi met Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima at the Royal Palace. The leaders discussed ways to further strengthen India–Netherlands relations and expand cooperation in several strategic sectors.
According to PM Modi, both sides exchanged views on collaboration in technology, innovation, sustainable growth, commerce, water management, and green development initiatives. He stated that India and the Netherlands are connected through shared interests, democratic values, and a common vision for building a future-ready and sustainable world.
Historic Return of Chola Copper Plates to India
In another major cultural and diplomatic development during the visit, Prime Minister Modi announced that the historic Chola Copper Plates dating back to the 11th century will be repatriated to India from the Netherlands.
Calling it “a joyous moment for every Indian,” PM Modi participated in a special ceremony held in the presence of Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten.
The Chola Copper Plates consist of 21 large plates and 3 smaller plates containing inscriptions primarily in Tamil. The inscriptions are associated with Rajendra Chola I and refer to commitments formalized during the reign of Rajaraja I. The Prime Minister described the Chola dynasty as a symbol of India’s rich cultural legacy and maritime strength.
PM Modi also thanked the Government of the Netherlands and Leiden University, where the copper plates had been preserved since the mid-19th century.
Prime Minister Modi is currently on a five-nation diplomatic tour, with his Netherlands visit being viewed as strategically, economically, and culturally significant for strengthening India’s global partnerships.
