Blackstone President highlights improvements in infrastructure, capital market rules and openness to foreign investment
New Delhi, October 13, 2026: Blackstone President and Chief Operating Officer Jonathan Gray has praised the development of India’s capital markets, saying their liquidity is now probably second only to that of the United States.
Speaking during the “The End of Predictability” panel at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum 2026, Gray highlighted how India’s investment environment has changed over the past two decades.
A Changing Investment Landscape
Gray said Blackstone had moved several companies to India for listing, illustrating the opportunities now available in the country’s capital markets. He contrasted this with conditions two decades ago, when many Indian industries were inaccessible to the firm.
He credited improvements in physical infrastructure, dispute resolution and the government’s openness to foreign investment with supporting India’s growth prospects.
Why Market Liquidity Matters
Market liquidity refers to how easily investors can buy or sell shares and other financial assets without significantly affecting their prices. A liquid market facilitates transactions and gives investors greater flexibility when entering or exiting investments.
Gray’s remarks offer a positive assessment of India’s capital markets. However, his comparison with the United States was qualified by the word “probably.” The available remarks did not identify a specific measure or formal global ranking supporting that comparison.
