NEW DELHI: Senior BJP leader BS Yeddyurappa was on Wednesday acquitted of charges of accepting bribes in the Bellary mining case, by a Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) special court.
The CBI court also acquitted all the other accused in the case.
“Justice is done, I stand vindicated… Thanks to all well wishers, friends & supporters who stood with me in my tough times,” Yeddyurappa said on Twitter.
‘Satyameva Jayate’, he then added.
The CBI in 2012 filed a chargesheet against Yeddyurappa and his close family members, in a land deal that was being investigated for being part of kickbacks received from the Bellary-based South West Mining Company, to facilitate giving the steel maker undue access to iron ore.
A criminal case was registered against the former CM, his sons and son-in-law, for de-notifying government land and buying it for a mere Rs 40 lakhs to sell it later to companies linked to JSW, for Rs 20 crore, which was way above market value.
