Lok Sabha discards Pak Assembly’s resolution on Afzal Guru

New Delhi, 15th March: Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar on Friday passed a resolution ‘completely rejecting’ Pakistan National Assembly’s resolution on 2001 Parliament attack terrorist Afzal Guru, who was hanged last month. He was hanged and buried in Tihar Jail in Delhi on February 9.

The LS Speaker said, “Kashmir is and will always be a part of India.” The statement was welcomed with thunderous applause from Parliamentarians cutting across party lines.

The resolution further stated that any country interfering in India’s internal affairs will be met with a resolute and united response. Denouncing terrorism emanating from the Pakistani soil, the resolution told Pakistan’s National Assembly to desist from acts of support for extremists and terrorist elements.

External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid yesterday had reacted sharply to the resolution passed by Pakistan Parliament to condemn the hanging of terrorist Afzal Guru saying it was “highly improper”. Khurshid tersely asked Islamabad not to dabble in internal matters of this country.

Trying to fish in troubled waters, Pakistan’s National Assembly on Thursday passed a resolution condemning the hanging of Parliament attack convict Guru and demanded the return of his body to his family.

The National Assembly or lower house of Pakistani Parliament Thursday passed a resolution moved by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, who heads a special parliamentary panel on Kashmir.

Besides condemning the hanging of Guru, the resolution expressed concern at the situation created in Jammu and Kashmir by the execution.
